EIA National: $4.465 on Sep 28
At Sam's Club fuel centers, the national regular unleaded average rose from $3.726 on September 1 to $4.083 on September 30, an increase of 35.7 cents (+9.59%). Prices rose at 499 of 532 clubs (93.8%), and the median club rose 37 cents, more than at Walmart, Murphy USA, or 7-Eleven.
Sam's rose differently from the other brands. Walmart and Murphy jumped more than 20 cents in a single day on September 10. Sam's raised prices in smaller steps, with no daily increase larger than 10 cents, but it also cut them much less afterward. Its average stayed within 2 cents of the $4.158 peak from September 20 to September 28, then dropped 5.8 cents in the last two days, partly because of Georgia's gas-tax holiday.
