State and local fuel taxes are the biggest single factor — they range from under 20 cents to more than 60 cents per gallon — followed by regional fuel-blend requirements, distance from refineries and pipelines, and how much nearby competition a station has.

Prices are gathered from public sources and reflect each station's latest posted price, so always verify at the pump; stations that don't report a grade are left out of that grade's average.
