The Short Answer: Three Products, One Pump
Murphy USA (NYSE: MUSA) sells cheap unbranded fuel. Loyalty is an extra layer, not a ticket to the forecourt. You do not need a membership, an app, or a house credit card to buy gas. Drive Rewards is how frequent customers claw back a few more cents.

The program runs at Murphy USA kiosks (usually in a Walmart lot) and at standalone Murphy Express stores. QuickChek, which Murphy also owns, has its own QC Rewards app — 10 points per merchandise dollar and 3 per gallon — and does not take Drive Rewards. 1. How Does Murphy Drive Rewards Work?
Murphy's FAQ calls Drive Rewards the “premiere app based loyalty program.” Marketing copy on murphydriverewards.com promises fuel savings of up to $1 off per gallon plus deals on snacks and drinks. The company operates more than 1,700 stores in 27 states; we currently price 1,649 of those pumps (1,093 in Walmart lots, 556 standalone, 377 still tagged Express).

2. How Many Murphy Points for a Gas Discount?
This is the highest-intent question in the cluster: how many points for gas, how many points for a gas discount, how many Drive points for gas. Using the long-standing 100-points-per-10¢ ladder:

Two rules waste more money than a bad redemption rate:
- Unused gallons are forfeited. A $1/gal reward on a 25-gallon cap that you apply to a 6-gallon top-off still burns the whole reward. App Store reviews have been angry about this since 2022. Redeem on a near-empty tank, or pick a smaller cents-off tier.
- The cap is per transaction, not per day. Murphy's payments page currently says 25 gallon max on points redemptions (and on Scorecard). Older copy and some of our own earlier articles said 20, because Murphy's homepage still prints “up to 20 gallons” in one headline and “up to 25 gallons” in the next. Trust the dispenser and the app the day you fuel.
Points are not cash. Sweepstakes rules on murphydriverewards.com say they may expire on a designated date, are non-refundable, and cannot pay prior transactions. Independent roundups have cited both 90-day inactivity (Dallas Morning News, 2022) and a 365-day inactivity window. The in-app terms are the only figure to budget against. Make a qualifying earn or redeem once in a while so a balance does not vanish.
3. How Do I Sign Up (and Why Does “Finish Profile” Matter)?

Create the account
Murphy recently added shortened enrollment and one-time-passcode login, so you can skip a password if you prefer a code texted to your phone. Use a mobile number you will actually type at the pump — that number is your Alternate ID.
Finish the profile
After the short signup, the app still nags for remaining profile fields (name, birthday, email, sometimes a preferred store). Welcome rewards and some Drive Deals stay locked until that is done. That is the “finish profile” search — not a second program.
Pick the welcome reward
The App Store copy still advertises an exclusive welcome reward. Take it. Then hit Rev Up once that week for a small free-point drip.

4. How Do I Use Murphy Drive Rewards at the Gas Pump?
Identify first, pay second. That order is the difference between a discounted gallon and the posted price.
Before you leave the house
Open Drive Rewards → Rewards → redeem the fuel discount you actually want. It sits on the account until you use it (or it expires). Do not wait until you are holding the nozzle in a sun-baked parking lot to discover you are 20 points short.
At a Murphy USA or Murphy Express dispenser
- 1. Start the loyalty prompt, not the card slot. Look for Drive Rewards / phone number / Alt ID on the screen. Enter the 10-digit mobile number on the account.
- 2. Select the loaded reward. The pump should list what you already redeemed in the app. Confirm it.
- 3. Then pay. Cash inside, chip, tap, Apple Pay, or Google Pay. Drive Rewards and Walmart+ can attach to a phone wallet if you identified first. Most partner prepaid discounts (Payactiv, Scorecard, and the 5–10¢ house rates) are marked “Not available with” Apple Pay / Google Pay on Murphy's payments table — use the physical card.
- 4. Hang up and keep the receipt. Points post after the fill settles. If the cents-off did not print, the cashier can sometimes re-run loyalty on a store transaction; they cannot always fix a completed outdoor sale.
Paying inside / kiosk window
Tell the cashier the pump number, then your phone number or show the barcode in the app's Card / Wallet screen. Prepaying a dollar amount inside also skips the $100 debit / $175 credit pump hold. Compact Walmart-lot kiosks are window-service; larger Express stores have a full register.

5. The Murphy Gas App: Rev Up, Drive Deals, Prices

A weekly tap-to-play that drops a random point prize. You cannot farm “unlimited Rev Ups.” Older reviews mention 15–25 points; newer ones complain of 1–2. Treat it as a free lottery, not a second income.
Drive Deals
Rotating cents-off or free-item offers on snacks and drinks. Load the deal, scan the barcode inside. This is what people mean by Murphy coupons — not a printed rollback code.
Store finder + prices
Murphy says website and app prices refresh about every five minutes. Reviews still report the occasional stale or wrong-town pin. Cross-check against our live Murphy map before you drive across town for a 3-cent gap.
Earn tab
Bonus surveys and partner offers appear here when Murphy is running them. If the Earn icon is dark, there is nothing to tap that week. Fuel and merchandise still earn on every identified purchase.
Seasonal contests — Fuel Your Summer, Red Bull sweepstakes, dream-car drawings — live in this app too. The 2024 summer promo, for example, took either a qualifying Red Bull purchase after an in-app opt-in or 10 Drive Rewards points per extra entry. Those are not standing gas discounts. When they return, the icon shows up on the home screen.

Walmart+ and Drive Rewards fuel do not stack
Murphy's FAQ: customers cannot earn or use Drive Rewards points on fuel when they take Walmart+. They can earn and use Drive Rewards on merchandise. Practical rule: key the 6-digit Walmart+ ID on ordinary fills (no gallon cap, 10¢ every time). Payactiv is the partner offer with a current public page
Payactiv's Murphy FAQ: 10¢/gal when you pay with the physical Payactiv Visa at Murphy, plus 50 Drive Rewards points per $200+ direct deposit (up to four deposits a week in that promo). The virtual card and Apple Pay do not unlock the 10¢. That is a prepaid debit product, not a Murphy-issued credit card.

Murphy gas card and Murphy USA gas card sound like one product. They are not. Split the plastic:

Gift cards, reloads, and “digital Murphy gas cards”
Murphy sells its own store gift cards at participating registers. They work for fuel and merchandise at Murphy USA and Murphy Express, and Murphy notes that accepted gift cards skip the pump pre-auth hold. They are not a reloadable open-loop “gas card” you top up from a website like a Speedway Speedy Rewards Visa. If you need a set dollar amount and a tight checking balance, buy or load a Murphy gift card at the window and prepay the pump.

Personal vs business vs Express
- Is the card good at Murphy Express? Drive Rewards, Murphy gift cards, Walmart+, WEX, and the business Mastercard are chainwide USA + Express. The same phone number works at both formats.
- What credit score do you need? Drive Rewards: none. Gift card: none. Personal Visa and fleet/business cards: issuer underwriting. There is no published FICO cutoff on Murphy's site.
- How do I log in or check the balance? Drive Rewards balance lives in the app. Gift-card balance is on the plastic / receipt. WEX and FNBO/First Bankcard have their own portals (firstbankcard.com for legacy Visa accounts). There is no unified “Murphy gas card login.”
- Can you use a Sam's Club or Costco card? A Sam's membership does nothing at Murphy. A Costco Visa is just a Visa — accepted, no Costco 4% at a Murphy merchant. Discount Tire and other house cards are not interchangeable.
8. Rollback Codes, Coupons, Membership, and Cigarettes
Is there a Murphy rollback code?
Walmart Supercenters print rollback stickers. Murphy pumps do not. Do you need a membership for Murphy gas?
No. Posted price is the public price. Drive Rewards is free if you want it. Walmart+ is optional and paid. A Sam's Club membership is for Sam's fuel centers, not the red-and-white canopy next to Walmart. Costco membership is equally irrelevant here.
Can you use rewards for cigarettes?
Fuel redemptions apply to gallons. They do not convert to store credit for tobacco. Merchandise Drive Deals are almost always snacks and drinks. Murphy's earn language is “almost every*” purchase — tobacco, alcohol, lottery, and money services are the categories c-store programs usually exclude. If you are buying smokes, pay cash or card; do not expect the pump discount to follow you to the cigarette cabinet.
Can you use a Walmart credit card at Murphy?
Yes if it is an open-loop Mastercard (OnePay CashRewards). No extra Murphy cents. The private-label Spend Card is declined. The old Capital One Walmart Rewards card that paid 2% at Murphy is gone — converted to Quicksilver. Gift-card workaround: where a Walmart gift card still buys gas.
